Yom haTeruah is the beginning of the Fall holy days, and is the first of what are considered the High Holy Days. The Day is marked by specific prayers which are unique to the Holy Days, and the sounding of the Shofar. At the conclusion of the service we will have a special congregational meal (oneg), and weather permitting we will be going to the lake for Tashlich, and to do immersions, at the end of our Oneg. Tashlich is the practice of going to a body of living water (a river or a natural lake where there is the flowing of a current) and casting our "sins" upon those waters for them to carried away from us. To make this meaningful, we take stones and after naming our sin/sins we throw them into the lake.
