Services begin at 11:00 AM The Festival of Sukkot last for seven day, and then we are told that we are to have a holy convocation on the 8th day. Shemini Atzeret is that 8th day. It is a reminder that as some point this creation will cease and that G-d will create a new heaven and a new earth. This is a time of great celebration, and in Israel it is linked to what is called Simchat Torah (the Joy or Rejoicing in the Torah). If you were to attend any synagogue during these days you would find a great deal of singing and dancing as a part of the service itself.
